Earned Five Nominations Each
ENCINO, CALIFORNIA (May 30, 2007) … The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) today announced the nominees for its 2007 Home Entertainment Awards, which recognize the home video industry’s outstanding products. Academy Award-winner Happy Feet and independent film The Proposition lead the nominations with five apiece. Also cruising ahead of the competition are Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, each bringing in four nominations. Following closely behind are Clerks II, Lucky Number Slevin, The Departed, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe with three nominations apiece. Winners will be announced during EMA’s Awards Show on July 17, 2007 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
“Home video is America’s favorite way to view movies, and EMA is pleased to be able to honor those titles that are the best in their class,” said Bo Andersen, President of EMA. “Each of the nominees has stood out in a special way as an example of quality entertainment.”
EMA has expanded this year’s awards categories, which cover 138 nominees in 28 groups, including Blu-Ray and HD DVD titles, Re-mastered titles, and Frontiers titles of the year. Among the studios with the most nominations are Buena Vista (17 nominations), Fox (14), Warner (13), and Genius (13). The complete list of nominees is available here
The eligibility period for EMA’s Home Entertainment Awards was from April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007. This year’s award categories and nominees were determined by EMA’s Home Entertainment Awards Nominating Committee, and the winners will be determined by a vote of EMA retail and distributor members. In developing the list of nominees, the committee took into consideration the rental and sell-through success of the title and the strength of the marketing campaign launched by the studio or distributing label of the video, both to consumers and retailers.
EMA’s Home Media Expo, sponsored by EMA and produced by Home Entertainment Events, will be held July 16-19, 2007 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is open to trade and press only. Individuals interested in attending can register at www.homemediaexpo.com
