Washington, DC- Congressman Jon Porter secured funding for the City of Henderson Crime Lab and other police technology improvements. This funding was included in the Science, State, Justice and Commerce Appropriations Act of 2007.
The City of Henderson Police Department faces a backlog of DNA and other evidence processing. Currently, Henderson relies on other agencies for evidence processing and analysis. As a result, only 5% of potential DNA evidence is analyzed and some evidence is not available for investigations and subsequent prosecutions. Porter requested $460,000 in funding to help alleviate this backlog and will also assist in the building and equipping of the city’s new crime lab.
Porter secured an additional $540,000 for improvements in police technology for the Henderson Police Department. These funds will be used to upgrade and expand Henderson’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System, purchase In-Car Video Systems, purchase License Plate Recognition Systems, establish modular offices and classrooms in the Eldorado Valley Regional Training Center and equip a training facility for the Henderson Police Department.
“It is critical that we provide the Henderson Police department with the tools necessary to continue to protect our families and communities,” Porter said. “As Nevada’s second largest city continues to grow I will help ensure that our police officers and public safety officials have the resources they need to stay ahead of the criminals.”
