HENDERSON, NV – Today in Denver, Democrats from across the country will join together for the second day of the Democratic National Convention to discuss their commitment to renew America’s promise. Third Congressional District Candidate Dina Titus released the following statement today on her comprehensive energy plan that will strengthen our nation and help put it back on track after years of failed policies that have left middle-class families behind.
“Today’s message in Denver is one that has been reverberating in homes around Nevada for some time, as hard-working Americans have been calling for a new direction that will renew America’s promise and restore our nation’s hope.
“For years, under the leadership of President George Bush and Congressman Jon Porter, our country and our state have been moving in the wrong direction. Nevada’s families have been stretched thin, struggling to make ends meet. And they are reminded of that struggle every day when they get in their car and endure gas prices near $4 a gallon. We have been paying the price for a failed energy policy that has catered to Big Oil, put drilling first, and paid lip service to renewable energy and conservation.
“It’s time for a real energy agenda that gets our nation back on track. My plan will address the pain at the pump immediately by putting more oil on the market and cracking down on speculators who are driving prices higher.
“The people of Nevada need a leader with the vision and experience to look beyond today – to a future that is free from our dependence on foreign oil and focuses on a Energy Economy that will bring jobs to southern Nevada by investing in renewable energy. But until Nevada’s abundant renewable resources – solar, wind, and geothermal – become the power of the present, we must bridge the gap through increased drilling. By tapping into American oil, and keeping it in our country – out of the hands of speculators – we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil and lower the price at the pump.
“For six years, Nevadans have taken a back seat to Big Oil companies and their campaign contributions. As an independent voice for the Third District, I will work to bring the change Nevada needs and deserves.”
