HENDERSON, NV – As students across Nevada and America return to school, Third Congressional Candidate Dina Titus and Congressman Rahm Emanuel, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, discussed their commitment to ensuring our children and young people earn a quality education. Doug Bache, Vice President of the Nevada State Education Association, and Gregory Brown, Nevada Faculty Alliance endorsement committee co-chair and Associate Professor at UNLV, also joined Titus and announced their endorsement of her candidacy for the Third District seat.
“I am excited to receive the endorsement of NSEA and NFA, and as an independent voice for Nevada, I will work to provide our educators with the resources they need to ensure our children and young people reach their full potential,” Titus said. “As we create an Energy Economy that makes southern Nevada a leader in renewable energy, a quality education will be critical to unlocking innovation and preparing our students for the jobs of tomorrow.”
“Under George Bush, college costs have doubled, No Child Left Behind has been underfunded, and too many kids aren’t getting the education they need. And for too long, Republicans in Congress like Jon Porter went along with the Bush program – voting for record cuts to student aid,” said Congressman Emanuel. “We need someone like Dina Titus in Congress, who will stand with our children every time and bring the change we need in Nevada and America.”
“I am proud to announce the NSEA has endorsed Dina Titus in the race for the Third Congressional District. Dina has reaffirmed her long-standing support for education,” said Doug Bache of NSEA. “We first supported her in her run for the Senate in 1988, and since that time, she has always kept the welfare of Nevada’s children and their education at the forefront of her agenda. As a political science professor at UNLV, Dina has firsthand knowledge of the needs of the education system in our state.”
“Dina Titus' long record of achievement as both a UNLV faculty member and state Senator have made her one of our state's most valued leaders on higher education issues,” said Gregory Brown of NFA. “We know that Dina will take to the Congress a deep knowledge of how to improve the quality of teaching and research in southern Nevada and a commitment to making college more affordable. Nevada college faculty and students would be better off if Dina Titus represented Nevada's 3rd Congressional District.”
