The deadline for applications to the spring 2008 session of the Reno Citizens
Institute (RCI), Reno’s hands-on learning approach for residents who want to
learn about the functions of Reno city government, is 3:00 p.m. Friday, March
21.
The free 10-week program meets at various city facilities from 6:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each Thursday evening, during which citizens have a chance to
meet elected officials, department heads and city staff to learn from them about
how Reno city government functions. A light meal is provided before each class.
The seminar offers a chance to gain valuable insight into city operations that
participants can use to create change in their neighborhood and the community to
help improve the quality of life. It also offers a learning opportunity for
those who want to serve on one of the city's many advisory boards, or are
interested in running for office.
The Reno Citizens Institute is held
twice a year and limited to 30 participants. Participants must be at least 18
years old and work or reside in the Truckee Meadows. Media representatives are
also encouraged to participate. The spring session begins Thursday, April 10.
Applications for the spring session and more information about the
program are available on the city’s website www.cityofreno.com or by calling
Reno Direct at 334-INFO (4636).
