An updated description of the suspect vehicle in the January 20 abduction and murder of Brianna Denison, and two sexual attacks that occurred in November and December has been developed by the Reno Police Department through tips and witness information.
Police detectives said the updated description is of the pickup as it appeared on December 16 and said the suspect may have altered the appearance of the vehicle since that time. They also said the vehicle may not necessarily have belonged to the suspect, but was one to which he obviously had access. Police also say that if the vehicle was owned by the suspect, he may have since sold it.
Police are now seeking information about a pickup that is consistent with a smaller or mid-sized version that includes the following features:
• An extended cab configuration (non-standard cab).
• Two bucket-style seats covered with soft dark, possibly dark grey or black velour upholstery.
• The front passenger seat had an adjustable head rest at the top of the seat back.
• The front passenger front seat reclined approximately 20 degrees and was operated by a manual lever along the bottom of the seat.
• A center console was mounted to the floor between the front seats. The console was approximately 6 to 8 inches in width, and 8 to11 inches in height above the level of the seat.
• The lid on the center console was covered with a textured black vinyl or plastic similar to material commonly found on vehicle dashboards. The console lid hinges were located at the rear of the console, and the lid on the center console did not extend all the way to the front of the seat bottom. The inside of the center console did not illuminate when the lid was open
• It did not appear that there was a conventional bench seat located in the extended cab area behind the front bucket seats.
• The dome light was centered between the front seats above the windshield forward in the cab.
• The pickup had an automatic transmission.
• The radio, tape player, or C.D. player was mounted at the center of the dashboard directly forward of the center console. The unit had a rectangular shaped face with the display showing at least three rows of narrow bars on the right side of the display, with the bottom bars being red in color, and blue colored bars above the red.
Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or investigation is being asked to contact either the Secret Witness Program at (775) 322-4900, or the Reno Police Department’s 24-hour tip line at (775) 745-3521.
DNA evidence has linked the suspect not only to the Denison abduction from a residence at 1395 Mackay Court on January 20, but also to a sexually motivated attack that occurred in the parking lot at 401 College Drive between 5:55 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. on November 13, and an abduction and sexual assault that occurred in the parking lot at 1425 North Virginia Street between 4:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on December 16. Denison’s body was recovered on February 15 from an undeveloped field in an office-light industrial area in southwest Reno.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his early 20’s to mid-30’s, 5’9” tall or taller, possibly up to 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a long face with a square chin and brown head of hair with an undetermined style. The suspect was reported to have facial hair in December, about a quarter to half-an-inch long below his chin was soft and not prickly as stubble normally is. Police note the suspect may have since shaved his face.
The suspect also reportedly has a Shaved pubic region, an “innie” belly button, a belly that was described as not excessively large and firm but not flabby, and a light covering of hair on his arms with no visible tattoos on his hands, fingers, lower abdomen, groin or genitals.. He is said to have large hands with “meaty” thick fingers, and speaks with a normal speech pattern with no accent or regional dialect.
