Reno Firefighters Seek Donations For Homeless Veterans
Source: City of Reno
Apr 5, 2008 - 4:12:40 PM

Reno firefighters are working to help homeless veterans have something to eat, personal hygiene items and clothing, but most importantly, to let them know that someone cares.

Reno Firefighters Union Local 731 has already contributed $500.00 to Project Rub-a-Dub-Dub, is gathering donations from its firefighter membership, and has organized collection points at various Reno Fire stations to join with the public in gathering items to present to homeless veterans to help them and give them a little hope.

Reno firefighters are asking Reno area residents to check their closets for new or used items in good condition, and to make a little extra purchase at their local fast-food restaurant or grocery store to collect the following:

• Blankets.
• Backpacks, which will be filled with the items and given to homeless veterans.
• Gift Cards of $5.00 from fast-foot restaurants
• Food items, such as bottled water, Crystal Lite, cereal bars and other “no-cook,” easy-open foods to provide a healthy snack they can eat when they might not have anything else.
• Travel/trial-sized personal hygiene items including combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, soap, shampoo, wet wipes, lotion, sunscreen, Chapstick, washcloths, shaving kits for men and women.
• Clothing, such as t-shirts, underwear and socks.
• Pet products, because many homeless veterans have companion animals, such as dogs.
• Cards of support, to let these veterans know they have our support and that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.

Donated items can be dropped off at any Reno Fire station between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily through May 2:
