Reno’s Redevelopment Agency announced Reno’s West Street Market is on target to open its outdoor market in July with the indoor tenants scheduled to open in October. Posted Date: 5/14/2008 2:50 PM
Members of the Reno City Council today received a glimpse of the sights, sounds, flavor and fun of Reno’s new urban market, “West Street Market.”
The Market will be located off West Street in downtown Reno, in the middle of the block between First and Second Streets. Reno’s Redevelopment Agency announced Reno’s West Street Market is on target to open its outdoor market in July with the indoor tenants scheduled to open in October.
The market is designed to serve as a gathering place that will provide a unique experience centered around food, friends, shopping, entertainment and demonstrations. The focus of the food is homemade, fresh and local. The market will also serve as a place to find and buy unusual items, art and gifts. You will also find entertainment and demonstrations where you can learn new things from cooking to being a better steward to the environment.
The Agency also announced the new tenants pursuing this new opportunity. Currently they include: Brickhouse Bakery (Fresh Baked Goods), Wine Bar, Great Basin Community Co-op (Fresh Produce), Mikonos, Se7en Tea House & Bar, La Marenda (Great Italian Cooking), Downtown Marketplace & Deli, Great Basin Basket CSA, Nevada EcoNet, Sundance Books, Silver Trends Jewelry, Jada’s Jewels.
Every Wednesday night the market will feature an “Eco Market” produced by Nevada EcoNet. Demonstrations and programs will focus on a wide range of topics including biking, health, beauty, babies, pets, gardening and recycling.
Every Friday night will feature an “Artist Market.” The Holland Project will be very active in providing programming including interesting titles such as “Ode to Crafternoon: Not Yer Granny’s Craft Fair,” to “Old School Block Party.”
Saturday mornings will feature a Farmer’s & Chef’s Market in cooperation with the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market on California Street.
Locally and nationally known food expert, Jennifer Bushman will provide cooking demonstrations. Some of the topics include: Kids in the Kitchen; Budding Teen Chefs; Date With Dad; Mommy at the Market; Learn at Lunch; Girls Night Out; Fast Scratch; Uncorked!; Meet the Producers; Seasonal Cooking Demonstrations; Shopping for a Family of 1-2; Harvest; Holiday Cooking.
