April 4th to April 5th

The David Allio Motorsports Photography Workshop program returns to the historic Hickory Motor Speedway on April 4-5, 2008. Technical comparisons of the new digital camera offerings, as well as insight on selecting photographs for publication are among the new topics to be included in the annual photo workshop.

"The overall workshop program contains a solid foundation of technical and marketing information," Allio said. "Now with the release and update of the Nikon and Canon cameras, a new wave of information has become available. Most of this updated material comes from first-hand experience and includes practical comparisons of the newly released equipment."

Workshop instructor, David Allio has been a working professional motorsports photographer since 1974. He is a member of both Canon and Nikon Professional Services. During his 33-year award-winning career, Allio photographs have appeared in the pages and on the cover of nearly every sports publication in the world. In March, 2008, his photograph of race winner Carl Edwards led the Sports Illustrated coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Recent publication credits outside of the mainstream motorsports media also include ESPN Magazine, The Sporting News, and USA Today, and the book "ESPN Ultimate NASCAR 100 Defining Moments in Stock Car Racing History."

"Hickory Motor Speedway is a great technical photography classroom setting," Allio said. "The track is deep in tradition and offers a variety of photographic opportunities and challenges."

Allio’s first photo assignment at Hickory came in 1976. Since then, he has photographed the legends and action of the NASCAR-sanctioned oval at over 40 events. His images from Hickory Motor Speedway have been selected for the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. In 2007, a selection of photos from the historic racing facility were published in Europe.

Each two-day motorsports photography workshop program includes technical instruction in actual trackside racing environments, plus valuable information regarding copyright, image licensing and sales, professional conduct, getting published, and marketing. The goal of each program is to allow participants learn more to earn more. Advance registration is required. Participants may find more information and register online at: www.DavidAllio.com/workshop/.

Sponsors for the 2008 David Allio Motorsports Photography Workshop at Hickory include: Richard Petty Driving Experience, Las Vegas Trade Show Guide, Think Tank Photo, Nikon, Goodyear, SummitRacing.com, www.ChasinRacin.com, Roberts Camera, Appleget Associates, and Hickory Motor Speedway.
