With all the spin that is going on today regarding the elections yesterday – I’m getting dizzy! Look – during the run up – EVERYBODY was clamoring on how this was going to be a referendum on President Obama and of course depending on which side of the fence you were on – it was either going to be good…or bad!
Reports have it that the DNC spent over $10 million on just the New Jersey and the Virginia Governors races – and President Obama must have visited both places at least 1/2 a dozen times – and there’s no telling how many times Biden, and the rest of the DNC folks were out there trying to drum up votes for these incumbents!
They lost! But now they’re saying that its NOT a referendum on President Obama, that they are simply local elections with local issues that have no baring on the broader issues that the President is working on!
What they said before the election…
According to Politico: DNC taps $10 million line of credit to boost House, Senate gains – Hoping to maximize congressional gains, the DNC is taking out a $10 million line of credit to split equally between the House and Senate campaign committees, according to a top Democrat familiar with the move.
ABC News’ Stephanie Sy reports: President Obama gave a ringing endorsement to New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine in a speech conveniently peppered with elements of his health care pitch. At a Corzine rally in Hackensack, NJ this evening, the President called “Jon Corzine … one of the best colleagues I had in the Senate and one of the best partners I have in the White House.”
New York Times: Obama Spends Sunday in New Jersey for Corzine - On a campaign swing through New Jersey to help the re-election bid of Gov. Jon S. Corzine, President Obama on Sunday blamed Republicans for the state’s economic crisis and urged the crowd in Camden to convince their friends and relatives to vote on Tuesday.
“For the past four years, you’ve had an honorable man at the helm of this state,” Mr. Obama said to the crowd of more than 3,500 people. “It wasn’t a consequence of Obama’s policies or Corzine’s policies that we went into this hole. There seems to be some selective memory going on here.”
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, regarding the special run off election in upstate New York: I think a lot of people decided that in a district that had sent Republicans to Congress, parts of that district, since the 1800s traditionally had sent moderate Republicans. I think many in the Republican Party hung out a sign, as you heard people at the White House say this weekend, that moderates need not apply. I do think that has ramifications for next year because you’ve got primaries that you all are and will cover that pit very similar elements of that argument against each other next year.
Note to self: Since both the Democrat and the Independent running for this seat were more Republican that the Republican candidate – how does this make this imply moderates need not apply? If you look at the stats, this race was more about an extremely liberal, far left republican candidate that some how became the candidate of choice vrs a very conservative, right leaning Democrat, and a very conservative, right leaning Independent!
Question to Mr. Gibbs: Are you asserting that the voters who go to the polls today who are feeling economic anxiety, who feel the country is on the wrong track, the Democrats who are not as enthusiastic today as they were a year ago — none of that has any bearing on the President’s performance at all?
ANSWER MR. GIBBS: No, I don’t — I’m not sure exactly what some of that is — what some of what you’re premising your question on is based off of. I’m not suggesting there’s not economic anxiety. I’m not suggesting that there’s not frustration with Washington’s inability to deal with fundamental problems in our society. That’s exactly what the President is working on each and every day: to make health care more affordable; to create good-paying jobs; to create a new foundation for economic recovery through jobs in the 21st century.I’m not saying there’s not economic anxiety in this country. But again, if you look at what — if you look at — I’m just reading what was written about the poll by the people conducting the poll, who talked to the voters about what they’re saying and what they’re feeling.
What they are saying now…
CNN Says: “This time, all politics was local”
Note to Self: If THIS time all of the politics was local – what made it different?
Speaker Nancy Pelosi: “From my perspective, we won last night,” said Pelosi (D-Calif.), obviously only referring to the New York special election for the House seat previously held by Republican Rep. John McHugh. “We had one race were engaged in.”
Note to Self: Send Speaker Pelosi an email informing her about the other elections going on at the same time.
Tim Kaine Chairman of the DNC: “These races turned on local and state issues and circumstances and on the candidates in each race…the results are not predictive of the future or reflective of the national mood or political environment…” Click Here
Note to self: A Republican winning a statewide election in New Jersey for the first time is 12 years is not a reflection on what is going on in the nation, or the administration in power!
Tim Kaine Chairman of the DNC: “However, perhaps the most consequential race of the night was the special election in the 23(rd) Congressional District of New York in which the Republican candidate… Click Here
Note to self: A senatorial race in BFD upstate New York, where the Republican candidate – and I use that term VERY loosely dropped out the race at the last minute – and actually endorsed…THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE? was the “most consequential – over that of the Governors race in New Jersey – and the Republican sweep in Virginia.
And THAT is not all my friends. They seem to forget that President Obama himself, in a speech I quoted above said that it was Republicans who caused all the local problems in New Jersey – even though the Democrats have been in power for the past four years! How can you have it both ways? The ONLY Republican that could have effected New Jersey – was President Bush – but if ALL Politics are Local THIS time – how is it that the Democratic Govenor lost to the Republican – whose party was supposedly to blame for all the local problems even though there was no Republican in office at the time in New Jersey, but…ARGGGGGGGGGGG
OH – I don’t know, I have to sit down – as I said before the spin is getting me to dizzy – AND – there is much much more! BUT NO…I’m going to sit down, and relax for a bit before I hurt myself.
