Monthly series gives insight into the city's beginnings
The Springs Preserve’s monthly series, Untold Stories, kicks off with stories about growing up in early Las Vegas from WW I through the Great Depression this Thursday, Sept. 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Desert Living Center. A panel of legendary Las Vegans tell their personal stories of a time when the city was just starting to blossom, before the myth of Las Vegas became colored by imagery and pop culture iconography.
Featured panelists include Ed Von Tobel whose father participated in the famous 1905 land auction and started Von Tobel Lumber; Virginia Beckley-Richardson whose father owned Beckley's Men's Wear on Fremont Street; Violet Tracht whose family owned one of the first dairies in the valley; and Donna Andress whose mother was a teacher at the local grammar school.
Admission to the lecture is $12 for non-members, $10 for members and $6.50 for children ages five to 17.
The fall calendar of classes, tours and lectures is now available.
