Unilever donated (through a
grant) to Lake Mead National Recreation Area recycled plastic lumber benches
along the Historic Railroad Tunnel Trail.
Today, about 100-150 employees from Unilever locations around the
country constructed and installed the benches along the Historic Railroad
Tunnel Trail.
“This trail is the most
popular hiking location in Lake Mead NRA.
We, on behalf of the American people who own the national park system,
want to thank Unilever for their generous donation and the time of their
employees. They have been wonderful
partners of the national park system and of Lake Mead NRA. This is one of many projects and clean ups
they have done here over the years,” said Superintendent Bill Dickinson.
The benches, made of recycled
Durawood Lumber, will be used during interpretive programs for park visitors,
visiting students on field trips, hikers, and bicyclists who enjoy this trail.
Interpretive Rangers will also be reinforcing the message of recycling and
safeguarding resources for future generations to enjoy.
Lake Mead NRA was eligible to
apply for this grant because it participates in Unilever’s Recycling at Work
Program. For more information about
Lake Mead NRA’s recycling program, please contact Dr. Shannon Swann at 702.293.8985.
