Beginning today, construction activities began
on the new Willow Beach Fishing Pier. This construction project is expected to
continue through mid-July. To minimize
impacts to park visitors, the contractor, Candelaria Corporation, will work Monday
through Thursday between the hours of 6:00
am and 5:00 pm MST.
Through May 23rd, construction activities
will require periodic short-term (20-30 minute closures) of the Willow Beach Road north
of the picnic shelter. Please note these
closures should only affect traffic to and from the Fish Hatchery and will not
affect the main access road into the Willow
Beach developed area or
launch ramp.
Beginning on or about June 2nd, partial
closure of the Willow Beach Launch Ramp will be required to allow the assembly
and launching of pier sections. These
closures will only affect the north half of the ramp, and will last for about 2
to 3 hours. A 24-hour advance notice of partial
and 2-3 hour ramp closures will be provided to the concessioner, and NPS
rangers. The south half of the ramp will
remain open.
The $826,000 construction project is being
funded with about $625,000 is Arizona State Lake Improvement Funds and other
funding sources. “We are grateful for
the assistance the state of Arizona has
provided to help improve public fishing facilities on Lake Mohave,”
said Superintendent Bill Dickinson.
