Sparks/Reno, Nev. – A return to his roots, in a sense, is in the cards for Collin Raye. Now a bona fide country star, Raye, who cut his teeth on the Reno, Nev., area casino circuit, plays his chart-topping hits in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga’s Nugget November 30 and December 1.
Nurturing a music-business interest developed while growing up in a musical family in Arkansas, Raye and his brother played many locales in and around Reno, as well as Portland, Ore., during the 1980s. Faced with choosing between a comparatively secure non-music career and the allure of showbiz success, Raye pursued the latter. It paid off in a big way.
Raye signed a record deal with Epic Records in 1990. His debut single, "All I Can Be (Is a Sweet Memory)," entered the charts in 1991, reaching a peak of No. 29 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Raye's first album, also titled All I Can Be, was released soon afterward. The follow-up single, a ballad titled "Love, Me" quickly climbed to No. 1 on the same chart in early 1992, holding the peak position for three weeks; in addition, the single received a Song of the Year nomination from the Country Music Association. Spurred by the success of "Love, Me," All I Can Be was certified platinum by the RIAA. Multiple albums and chart-toppers later, for a man who has produced such great songs as “In This Life,” “My Kind of Girl,” "On the Verge," "One Boy, One Girl," "What the Heart Wants," "Every Second" and "I Can Still Feel You," Raye’s return “home” is sure to be triumphant.
Collin Raye plays November 30 and December 1 at 8 p.m. in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga’s Nugget. Tickets are $35, and are available by calling (800) 648-1177 or 775) 356-3300 or by visiting janugget.com. Dinner and show packages are available.
