VEGAS – Kara Meseguer of JW Marriott
Las Vegas Resort & Spa has just become a member of the prestigious Les Clefs
d’Or (LCD) concierge organization, the nation’s only association for
professional hotel concierges. Recently promoted from Concierge Supervisor to
Chef Concierge, she oversees a team of six at the resort.
Les Clefs d’Or (pronounced lay clay door), means “keys
of gold” in French. The crossed gold keys on its lapel pins are the
international symbol of the organization, and are displayed on a concierge’s
uniform to assure travelers they are dealing with a seasoned professional who
has met special educational standards.
According to Elizabeth Wilson, Administrator of Les Clefs d'Or, USA, the organization has about 40
members in Las
Vegas and more than 600 members nationwide, including
affiliates and honorary members. Another LCD member on JW Marriott Las Vegas’
concierge team is Diana Biel.
The statutes of Les Clefs d’Or commit to expanding the
training of those in the profession; promote and enhance the technical skills
and professionalism of concierges; foster the development of the hotel industry
and tourism; and maintain the highest possible standards of service for hotel
guests.
Meseguer has been a Las Vegas concierge for nine years. She stated,
“Many visitors don’t really know what a concierge is, or exactly what it is that
we do. In short, we could be considered a ‘personal assistant’ to our
guests.”
The most satisfying part of her job is hearing a guest
has enjoyed a recommendation. “On the rare occasion the guest had a bad
experience, it’s imperative that we hear about that too, so that we can follow
up with the venue and try to make things right with the guest,” she said. “The
guest’s wish is our command. You don’t find a job description much broader than
that!”
Meseguer runs the JW Marriott’s Personal Planning Center, a customized guest service that
takes personal concierge service to a whole new level.
The Personal Planning Center provides enhanced guest services
through proactive planning. Guests may finalize their activity plans prior to
arrival, working with the in-house concierge team to fashion a perfect stay.
After arrival, concierges can arrange last-minute details, make changes to
schedules or a travel compliment such as a special dinner or tour.
The Personal Planning staff takes the guess-work out of
arranging a visit to Las
Vegas, allowing guests to unwind and enjoy their stay to
the fullest. The experienced concierge staff personalizes each guest’s
itinerary, starting with transfer arrangements to and from the airport, while
also coordinating golf reservations, spa visits, shopping, shows, outdoor
adventures, tours, dining, limo transportation and
more.
