SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan was named "Program of the Year" Thursday
at InsideFlyer magazine's 20th Annual Freddie Awards, held in Phoenix. Based on
votes cast by more than 600,000 frequent fliers, the Freddie Awards are the most
prestigious consumer-generated honors in the travel industry.
This is the
fourth year that Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has been named "Program of the
Year." Alaska also received first-place honors for "Best Elite-Level Program"
for the third consecutive year and "Best Web Site" for the fifth year. And the
airline took second place in three categories: "Best Customer Service," "Best
Member Communications" and "Best Award Redemption."
"The competition is
tough and it's so gratifying when the recognition comes from our customers,"
said Steve Jarvis, Alaska's vice president of marketing, sales and customer
experience. "It tells us we're doing the right things and the advances we've
made in our program are appreciated."
The Freddie Awards were introduced
in 1988 by InsideFlyer magazine publisher Randy Petersen. They are named after
aviation pioneer Sir Freddie Laker, who founded Britain's first all-jet carrier,
Laker Airways Limited, in 1966.
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan offers some
of the industry's most attractive award levels when booking online, with Saver
Awards starting at 7,500 miles one way and 15,000 miles roundtrip. Additionally,
recent online innovations at alaskaair.com have made it easier for customers to
see all award-seat options for one-way and roundtrip itineraries on Alaska and
Horizon Air, including Saver and Peak award seats, coach and first-class seats,
and award-sale seats.
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members earn and
redeem mileage on more than a dozen airlines, including more major U.S. airlines
than any other frequent flier program. The program offers additional
opportunities to earn miles through an extensive network of partners, including
the Alaska Airlines Visa credit and debit cards, Mileage Plan Shopping, Mileage
Plan Dining, Safeway and more than 30 hotel and car rental partners worldwide.
