PING Introduces G10 and i10 Iron Designs

PHOENIX, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Two new custom-fit PING(R) iron series featuring game improvement technology for players of all skill levels are available world-wide to golfers beginning September 1, according to John A. Solheim, company Chairman & CEO.
"Golfers are looking for various attributes in their irons," said Solheim. "Forgiveness, feel, control and appearance are factors that golfers consider when matching an iron to their games. The G10(TM) provides golfers maximum forgiveness in a larger, higher launching head design. The i10(TM) has a players' iron look at address and still provides a high level of forgiveness for its compact size. Both irons represent our on-going commitment to improving the game through innovation, quality and custom fitting."
G10 Irons
The 17-4 stainless steel G10 irons are engineered with extreme low toe weighting to increase the moment-of-inertia for added forgiveness and consistency. The large, perimeter-weighted head features a new cavity shape and wider sole.
The center of gravity is positioned away from the face and low in the club head to promote higher launching, lower spinning shots. By creating a new shape for the Custom Tuning Port (CTP), PING engineers stabilized the hitting area for consistent ball velocity across the club face. An elastomer CTP insert helps produce a solid feel and sound. The wide sole provides forgiving ground impact and contributes to the high launch characteristics of the iron.
"The new cavity design of the G10 allowed us to add a lot more performance to our large headed, maximum forgiveness iron option," said John K. Solheim, PING's Vice-President of Engineering. "We're able to remove weight from the face yet make it even more stable than before. The weight is then repositioned in the low toe to drive up the MOI and increase forgiveness. It's a game improvement iron that will appeal to a variety of golfers."
The G10 irons feature a stainless steel shot finish and Atomic Orange color scheme.
Available 2-9, PW, UW, SW and LW.
U.S. MSRP is $107.50 per iron with the PING AWT steel shaft (Soft R, R, S & X flexes) and $135 per iron with PING TFC 129i graphite shafts (Soft R, R & S flexes).
Shipments begin September 1, 2007.
i10 Irons
The i10 irons are designed to appeal to golfers who prefer the look of a
smaller, blade-style club but still rely on the forgiveness of a cavity back.
Its compact head features blade-like offset and a thin top rail to give it a
players' iron look. A narrow, cambered sole ensures performance and playability
for golfers who place a high priority on shot control.
The new cavity design is engineered to provide consistent performance and a solid feel across the club face. The rib structure of the Custom Tuning Port (CTP) stabilizes the face and improves feel and consistency. Weight savings from the new cavity and face structure is positioned on the low toe to provide a high moment-of-inertia for its blade length. Its center of gravity location is closer to the face than the G10 iron to create a lower, more penetrating ball flight.
The i10 irons feature a stainless steel shot finish and Atomic Orange color scheme.

PING Ascending Weight Technology (AWT) Shaft Design
The standard steel shaft in both the G10 and i10 irons is the new PING- designed Ascending Weight Technology (AWT) series. In the new series, the long iron shafts are lighter than the short irons shafts to produce a set that provides the golfer consistent weight progression from driver (the lightest shaft in the bag) through the wedges (the heaviest shaft in the bag).
The new shafts help increase club head speed in the long irons and add control and consistency to the short irons.
PING TFC 129i Graphite Shaft
The PING TFC 129i is a new PING proprietary graphite shaft engineered to match the player profile and ball-flight characteristics of the intended user. The S-flex, for example, features a stiffer tip and heavier butt weight to reduce spin and produce a boring trajectory. The R-flex is designed with a softer tip and is lighter to promote a higher trajectory.
