Dublin, Ireland (January 15, 2008) – Team Full Tilt's Howard Lederer added to his illustrious resume
this week by claiming one of the most prestigious titles in tournament poker,
the $100K No-Limit Hold 'em event at the Aussie Millions.
Lederer, who has played a limited tournament schedule over the past two
years, showed why he is still considered one of the game's premier players as he
outlasted an elite field of 25 top pros, including fellow Team Full Tilt members
Phil Ivey, Chris
Ferguson, Andy Bloch, Gus Hansen, Allen
Cunningham, and John Juanda.
Coming to the final table as one of the short stacks, Lederer patiently
waited for key spots to attack and slowly accumulated chips as those around him
fell from the competition. He had the chip lead with just three competitors
remaining, and started heads-up play with a 2-1 chip lead over second-place
finisher Mark Teltscher.
After more than an hour of heads-up competition, Lederer claimed the title
and the $1.25 million first-place prize when his two pair of Aces and Jacks
bested Teltscher’s two pair of 7s and 8s. The victory is the largest single
tournament payday Lederer has ever earned, bringing his career tournament
earnings to nearly $5 million.
"The Professor proved that he is one of the toughest competitors at any
table, on any continent. I’m happy to see him take the title," said fellow Team
Full Tilt pro, and 2007 $100K Tournament Champion, Erick Lindgren.
