Worldwide Debut and Unveiling Event Helps Launch Foundation
’s Destination Joy
SM
Presented by LAY
’S
® Campaign
The Make-A-Wish Foundation
®, the world
’s largest wish-granting organization, in partnership with the
Las Vegas Monorail Company and Harrah
’s Entertainment,
debuted the charity
’s
Destination JoySM Monorail train.
Destination JoySM
presented by LAY
’S
® aims to inspire and empower
Americans to share their time, talents and resources to grant the wishes of the
100,000 children who will be diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions
over the next four years. The unveiling ceremony and worldwide debut of
Destination Joy
’s highly-visible 134-foot-long,
11-foot-tall Monorail train took place Tuesday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at the Las
Vegas Monorail station at the Flamingo Las Vegas. LAY'S
® Brand Potato Chips is the national
presenting sponsor of the campaign.
“It
’s only fitting for a
destination as world-famous as Las Vegas to play host to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation
’s
Destination Joy campaign
—and we
’re delighted to showcase the
Foundation
’s assertion that
‘we all have the power to grant a wish
’ with the unveiling of this visually stunning Monorail
train,
” said Ingrid Reisman, vice president of
corporate communications for the Las Vegas Monorail.
“We
’re passionate about helping
raise awareness of the Make-A-Wish Foundation
’s mission
and the children who benefit, and hope to motivate Las Vegas
’ caring residents and our millions of summer visitors to
share their much-needed time and financial support.
”
Visitors from around the world will see one of the Foundation
’s most beloved wishes showcased on the train:
‘Beetle Boy,
’ the super alter-ego
into which a wish child was transformed for his personal wish, wrapped around
the exterior of the four-car Monorail train. Beetle Boy is the perfectly
brilliant backdrop for the Foundation
’s unmistakable
shooting star logo, and the campaign
’s colorful
Destination Joy logo provides the rocket ship needed to get there.
“The
Destination Joy theme-wrapped Monorail
train provides an unparalleled platform for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to remind
everyone about the opportunity we all have to make a difference in the life of a
child,
” said Karen Iglesias, President of the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada.
In addition to the Monorail train unveiling event, the Make-A-Wish Foundation
hosted
Destination Joy events throughout the nation.
“Harrah's Entertainment is pleased to take part in
the debut of the Monorail's new Make-A-Wish Foundation train,
” said Marilyn Winn, president of Rio, Paris, and Bally's Las
Vegas.
“As a board member for the local chapter of the
Make-A-Wish Foundation, I have had the opportunity to experience first-hand the
amazing things that the organization is able to accomplish and have watched the
dreams of countless children come true.
”
To qualify for a wish, children must be older than 2
½ and younger than 18 years of age at the time of referral,
with a physician
’s certification. No other
qualifications need be met. In Southern Nevada, the Foundation is working to
grant the wishes of more than 125 deserving kids in 2007.
The Monorail
’s high-profile wrapped trains travel
the length of the Strip, with stops at seven stations
—including the event
’s debut
location at the Flamingo station, when the Monorail
’s
Destination Joy train took to the rails.
