BERTOLINI’S AUTHENTIC TRATTORIA BARTENDER JEFF CARPENTER TO PITCH FIRST
BALL AT THE LAS VEGAS 51 VERSES MEMPHIS REDBIRDS GAME, MAY 7
LAS VEGAS, NV (April
28, 2008) – Known by his customers as the “Mayor of Summerlin,” Bertolini’s
Bartender Jeff Carpenter also spearheaded efforts to raise funds for Hurricane
Katrina victims and was awarded “Best Bartender” in Las Vegas Life magazine’s “100 Best Things About Las Vegas” last
year. An avid baseball fan, Carpenter is
now going to take the pitcher’s mound to throw out the first pitch for the Las Vegas 51s at Cashman Center,
May 7.
“I was telling one of my guests that I was a baseball fan, and the Las
Vegas 51s were going to be playing against the Memphis Redbirds in May,” said
Carpenter, who has been a bartender at Bertolini’s Authentic Trattoria for
nearly 10 years. “The next thing I know,
my guest came in and told me I’d have the honor of throwing out the first pitch
in the game. I’m really excited about
it, and I’ve invited everybody I know to the game.”
As it turns out, Carpenter’s friend and guest is Allen Taylor,
executive vice president of the Las
Vegas 51s. Taylor made the
arrangements for Carpenter to throw the first pitch in the game.
A fan of the Memphis Redbirds since he
attended college at Arkansas
State University,
Carpenter will be able to share the field with his favorite team and watch the
action. After hearing that he’d pitch
the first ball, Carpenter purchased 50 tickets to the game for his regular
customers, coworkers at Bertolini’s, friends and family. He’s making another trip to buy 50 more
tickets to the game.
The popular bartender is used to “pitching in.” In 2006, Carpenter raised more than $2,000
for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He
donated all of his tips and matched the amount with his own money.
Carpenter’s hobbies have a tie-in with his bartending job. He collects shot glasses, which have all been
gifts from customers and friends, and displays them in his home. Carpenter’s collection, which currently
totals 2,000, includes shot glasses from nearly every continent.
