Reno/Sparks, Nev. – A huge part of the annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off is the nightly free main-stage entertainment. And this year is no different. Rib lovers are sure to enjoy even more of their favorite tunes with their favorite BBQ this coming August 27 through Sept. 1, 2008.
Bands start at 7 p.m.; 3 p.m. on Monday. There is no admission charge.

Wednesday, August 27
The Radiators – A rock band from New Orleans, Louisiana, who have combined traditional musical styles of their native city with more mainstream rock and R&B influences to form a bouncy, funky variety of swamp-rock they call “fish-head music.” A party band from a party town, they offer enthusiastic live performances and danceable beats, having earned a dedicated following and the admiration of many of their peers. In a feat of continuity rarely seen in the rock music world, the current five-man lineup is the same as when the band was formed in 1978.

Thursday, August 28
The Blasters – Their self-described "American Music" is a blend of blues music, rockabilly, early rock and roll, punk rock, mountain music, and rhythm and blues. They project the essence of small streets of post-war neighborhoods, car culture and the sun-bleached concrete of Downey, California. Influenced by the likes of The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and many others who came and went during the 1950’s and 60’s, The Blasters play the songs of the “working man's curse and rock and roll romance.”

Friday, August 29
Bucky Covington – The native of Rockingham, N.C., adds a new twist to the notion that winning isn’t everything. The eighth-place finalist on 2006’s fifth season of the runaway hit TV show American Idol, Covington has now parlayed that into a burgeoning country music singing career. Covington's self-titled debut album, produced by Mark Miller of the country band Sawyer Brown, was released on April 17, 2007. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and has produced three chart singles for him on the Hot Country Songs charts, including the #6 "A Different World" and #11 "It's Good to Be Us".

Saturday, August 30
Mumbo Gumbo – A part of the Rib Cook-off for many years, Mumbo Gumbo is a free-range grown-from-the-ground-up band of music makers whose melding of diverse styles and grooves continues to draw both booty-shakers and more sedentary, yet equally rabid, live music lovers. The band blends many genres, from rock to soul, afropop to lush balladry, zydeco to country, into a celebratory, danceable noise. Over nearly 20 years, on the septet’s eight albums and during countless gigs around their native Northern California, Mumbo Gumbo has created something that is less a specific style than a particular feeling: The sound of sheer joy.

Sunday, August 31
Night Ranger – Night Ranger created an indelible mark on the music world with a string of best-selling albums that sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. The band’s popularity was fuelled by an impressive string of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks, including “Sister Christian,” “(You Can Still) Rock In America,” “When You Close Your Eyes,” “Sentimental Street,” “Goodbye” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me.” Harnessing the frenetic drive of heavy metal to hook-laden rock songs, throwing in a stunning twin lead guitar team, and melodious, radio-friendly power ballads, Night Ranger inspired new descriptive phrases such as “melodic metal” and “metal power pop”. They became the standard-bearer of a new sound.

Monday, September 1
Joe Bonamassa – Well known for his raw, gritty voice and technically accomplished playing, blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa is considered among the best of his generation. The 30-year-old Los Angeles-based six-string gun slinger always comes out firing. His style is similar to blues-rockers Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Jonny Lang.

The 20th annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off is sponsored by US Bank, City of Sparks, Jack Daniels Country Cocktails, Southern Comfort, Curly’s Food Inc., Morrey Distributing-Budweiser, Kendall-Jackson, Model Dairy, Northern Nevada Medical Center, AT&T, Kansas City Barbeque Society, Southern Living, Silver Club, Swire Coca Cola, Full Throttle, Dasani, US Smokeless Tobacco, Northern Nevada Toyota Dealers, KBUL, KOZZ, KTHX, KZTQ, KRNV, Diamond Resorts Lake Tahoe and Gems TV.
