AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing drivers Raphael Matos and Arie Luyendyk Jr. both gained points on the leader of the Firestone Indy Lights championship with quality finishes at Saturday’s running of the Nashville 100.
Luyendyk Jr. finished third and is 52 points out of the lead in the championship. Matos fell to the back of the field at the start of the race but moved into the fifth position by the checkered flag. He is 15 points from leading the championship.
The Firestone Indy Lights action returns to the track at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday, July 19.
Raphael Matos, #27 AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"It was great to have a top-five finish. I spun out early and went to last, but was able to make a great comeback. Our AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing car was really fast and was able to give us a great finish. We are sitting second place in the championship and only 15 points behind first. We will work harder at Mid-Ohio and I hope we will be leading the championship after that race.”
Arie Luyendyk Jr., #26 Targus/Andretti Green Racing/AFS Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I am satisfied with a third-place finish. It was a hard fight. The finish was good for points and I hope to keep this momentum for the rest of the year. Our Targus/AGR/AFS car ran great and was the quickest car out there.
“I have a lot of respect for Ana. She’s done a great job this year. When anyone races you hard and clean you really respect them. It will be my job to beat her the next couple of races.”
