Excellent track conditions aid Gentile's record-shattering run

The three-day Pacific Street Car Association's (PSCA) K&N Filters Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway now resides in the record books.  Kelly Bluebaugh of Phoenix topped the Pro Street class with a final-round win over John Mihovetz of Ontario, Calif., but Giuseppe Gentile also caused quite a stir.

With the quarter-mile strip back in its usual excellent form, Gentile's 2008 Mustang doorslammer shattered the PSCA's Pro Street elapsed time (ET) record.  Gentile, of Sun Valley, Calif., bettered the old marks with a pass of 6.297 seconds at 226.05 mph.  The old ET record (6.357 sec.) was set by Mihovetz at Firebird Raceway on Oct. 7, 2007.

Ron Lummus of Anaheim, Calif., defeated Rich Zehring of San Jose, Calif., for Outlaw Street honors.

The Extreme Drag Radial class was won by Matt Schmidt over Steve Short of Mission Hills, Calif.

Tony Politano of Lancaster, Calif., won the Limited Street class over Russell Delia.

Hot Street honors were claimed by Daniel Bott II of Carefree, Ariz.  John Mitchell of Perris, Calif., was runner-up.

The Mustang class was won by Glen Stelecki of Riverside, Calif., over Justin Keller.

Mike Nordahl of Fontana, California defeated Henri Oliver of San Clemente in the Mean Street class.

The Wild Street finale was won by Chris Groves of Albuquerque, N.M., over George Raygoza.

The Open Comp final fell to Perris, Calif., racer Willy Rekseck, who defeated Steve Westlund of Las Vegas.

Jeff Blaase of Las Vegas defeated Robert Meads - also of Las Vegas - for Trophy class honors.

Dave Meigide of Running Springs, Calif., defeated Pahrump's Corey LeClair in the Bracket 1 class.

Super Street honors were claimed by Doug Crumlich of Irvine, Calif., over Corona's Brian Rogers.

Michael Haotrath of N. Las Vegas defeated Al White of Azusa, Calif., for the Quick Street trophy.

The next event at The Strip at LVMS will be the May 3-4 Las Vegas Speed Spectacular, featuring nostalgia drag racing (including 14 nostalgia Funny Cars), a car show, bands and $500-to-win pin-up girl contest.  For more information, please contact The Strip's office at (702) 632-8213 or visit www.LVMS.com.
