COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the
International Olympic Committee (IOC) filed two lawsuits on Tuesday, July 22,
against XL&H, Ltd., also known as Xclusive Leisure and Hospitality, and
other related companies, as the operators of several websites that have been
using the Olympic trademarks to deceive the public. Using the Olympic
trademarks, the websites misleadingly claim to offer legitimate, official
tickets to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and give consumers the false
impression that the sites are somehow affiliated with the USOC, the IOC and the
Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), as well as the
Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The lawsuits were filed in the Northern District of
California and the District of Arizona.
The USOC was contacted by
several consumers who purchased tickets using one of the fraudulent websites,
believing it to be a source of legitimate tickets to the 2008 Olympic Games. No
tickets have been received by those consumers despite numerous phone calls and
emails to the websites.
Jet Set Sports and CoSport, located at
www.jetsetsports.com and www.cosport.com, are the only official ticket agencies
for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games authorized to sell tickets in the United
States. Together, Jet Set and CoSport have the exclusive right to use the
Olympic marks to market and sell Olympic consumer hospitality and premium ticket
packages, individual tickets and hospitality management services in the United
States. Tickets to the 2008 Olympic Games are still available for purchase by
U.S. residents through CoSport as part of hospitality packages, and the USOC
strongly encourages consumers to purchase Olympic Games tickets through CoSport
in order to ensure those tickets are valid.
The primary websites that
are subject to the lawsuits are found at www.beijingticketing.com and
www.beijing-2008tickets.com. Both sites illegally use Olympic trademarks in
connection with their fraudulent activity, threatening and undermining the
Olympic brand for their own economic gain at the expense of misled consumers.
Other websites named in the lawsuit are www.beijingolympic2008tickets.com,
www.olympic-tickets.net, www.beijingolympictickets2008.com,
www.2008-0lympics.com, www.olympicticketsbeijing2008.com,
www.buyolympictickets.co.uk and www.official-ticket.com. U.S. consumers should
be wary of attempting to purchase Olympic Games tickets from any source other
than Jet Set and CoSport, the official ticket distributors in the United States.
Under the ticket license agreement with BOCOG, Olympic tickets are not
authorized for resale through commercial ticket brokers. BOCOG reserves the
right to cancel Olympic event tickets that have been obtained through improper
channels. For more information relating to ticketing, please visit the official
ticketing website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games at
www.tickets.beijing2008.cn.
