“Ambassadors of Goodwill” to spread holiday cheer to
troops
(PHOENIX, Nov. 27, 2007) – The world renowned Harlem
Globetrotters will once again entertain U.S. troops stationed overseas
during the holiday season. From Nov. 29 through Dec. 10, the team will perform
11 shows on military bases in seven countries: Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey,
Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
“People often call athletes and entertainers heroes, but those in our armed
forces are the true heroes,” says Globetrotter “Showtime”
Gaffney. “Nothing compares to meeting those people and bringing
them a little piece of home for the holidays.”
This marks the fifth consecutive year the Globetrotters have visited U.S.
troops overseas during the months of November and December, made possible by
Navy Entertainment and Armed Forces Entertainment. During last year’s historic
holiday tour of the Middle East, the team visited 12 different U.S. military
bases in five countries, including Iraq.
“The men and women of our armed forces are grateful that the Globetrotters
are continuing this tradition,” said Karen Fritz, Head of Special Events and
Entertainment for Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation. “The troops thoroughly
enjoy this wonderful piece of Americana during a time when it’s most difficult
to be away from their loved ones.”

their 82nd consecutive season of touring the world. The Globetrotters have
played in 118 countries on six continents, entertaining over 125 million fans
and crossing barriers between cultures, societies and people from all walks of
life. The Globetrotters are one of only six teams to be inducted into the
