Locals’ favorite barbecue restaurant, Memphis Championship Barbecue, will be featured on the Travel Channel’s new show, “Barbecue Paradise.” The episode, featuring a taste of real American barbecue, will air Wednesday, April 2 at 8p.m. PST.
Famous for down-home barbecue dishes, Memphis Championship Barbecue recently won the title of “Best Barbecue” from the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s 27th Annual Best of Las Vegas readers’ poll. The restaurant has won the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s poll nine times. Restaurateur and owner Mike Mills has brought the national spotlight to Las Vegas with three Memphis Championship Barbecue locations throughout the Las Vegas valley.
“Memphis Championship Barbecue is pleased to be a part of the Travel Channels’ new ‘Barbecue Paradise’ show,” said Mills. “We want our barbecue legacy to be recognized and hopefully tasted around the country.”
In the world of barbecue, champion pit master Mills is affectionately known as "The Legend." He presides over the pits at his five nationally acclaimed barbecue restaurants – 17th Street Bar & Grill, with two locations in Southern Illinois and Memphis Championship Barbecue, with three locations in Las Vegas. In the early 1990s, Mills was co-captain of the Apple City Barbecue Team, one of the most celebrated teams ever on the barbecue circuit. He has the distinction of being the only three-time Grand World Champion at the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. He is also a partner at Blue Smoke restaurant in New York City. Mill’s book, Peace, Love, and Barbecue: Recipes, Secrets, Tall Tales, and Outright Lies from the Legends of Barbecue, was nominated for a 2006 James Beard Award and was named the 2006 National Barbecue Association Book of the Year.
