Six week pilot program to determine if ridership warrants route expansion
A six week pilot program will be conducted by Field Operations Department staff to determine if City Ride bus system customers would realize sufficient benefits if the city of Las Vegas expands two downtown bus routes and adds stops along those routes.
Starting Monday, July 16, and continuing through Friday, August 24, the extended bus routes will be put into operation on a trial basis.
“Some users of the City Ride bus system suggested that downtown City Ride Routes 101 and 102 continue south on Casino Center Boulevard to Coolidge Avenue which is just north of Charleston Boulevard,” said Fleet and Transportation Services Manager Dan Hyde. “During the next six weeks, both bus routes will be extended to take in the five additional blocks south of Clark Avenue, where the buses typically stop. We will also add five more pickup-drop off points along these new routes in the downtown corridor.”
At the conclusion of the test period, passenger counts will be monitored and a determination will be made as to whether or not the temporary bus routes should become permanent.
City Ride Routes 101 and 102 operate daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is anticipated that stops along the new extended routes will be in 20 to 25-minute intervals which is a change from the current timed stops which are 15 minutes. Bus fares will remain at 50 cents or 25 cents for seniors.
City Ride maps showing the temporary route modifications to the current route are available for downloading from the city of Las Vegas web site at www.lasvegasnevada.gov or by calling (702) 229-6025
