Grand Central Parkway Traffic Lane Restrictions Start Monday, August 13

Starting Monday, August 13, Grand Central Parkway will narrow to one travel lane in each direction between Bonneville Avenue-Alta Drive and City Parkway during the day, and will completely close to traffic during the overnight hours from approximately 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Access to area businesses will be maintained from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, traffic delays can be expected. There should be minimal impact to travel on City Parkway and minimal impact to Alta Drive-Bonneville Avenue near Grand Central Parkway.

This traffic flow change is necessary as work gets underway on a $17.1 million improvement project on Grand Central Parkway in the area north of Charleston Boulevard, between Iron Horse Court and City Parkway.

During the construction, Martin L. King Boulevard and Main Street are suggested as alternate routes for through north-south travel. Charleston and Bonanza Road are suggested for east-west access. Discovery Drive, located to the south of Bonanza, provides access between Martin L. King Blvd. and Grand Central Parkway.

This project is part of a multi-agency, coordinated effort to prepare for several projects in the downtown area. The Downtown Connector rapid transit project is the first phase in an overall project by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to eventually provide a high-speed transit connection from downtown Las Vegas, through the resort corridor, with connectivity to McCarran International Airport.

The project will also construct infrastructure for the city of Las Vegas’ 61-acre Union Park development which includes installation of utilities, water, sewer and storm drainage improvements. This work is being completed concurrently with the Downtown Connector project to minimize future traffic disruptions as the Union Park site develops.

These improvements will take approximately one year to complete. Funding is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, the Regional Transportation Commission and the city of Las Vegas. The contractor is Capriati Construction. The city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works is managing the project.
