A special ceremony is set to highlight the substantial completion of the County’s project to upgrade the 215 from Summerlin Parkway to Craig Road.
A special ribbon-cutting ceremony to highlight the substantial completion of the county’s 215 project between Summerlin Parkway and Craig Road is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 30. This special ceremony will be conducted just to the north of Summerlin Parkway and adjacent to the 215.
“The western edge of the Las Vegas Valley really is going to benefit from this project, particularly at Cheyenne, where you now won’t have to encounter traffic signals unless you’re getting off at the new interchange,” said County Commissioner Chip Maxfield, who represents the area. “This is going to not only improve traffic flow but also safety and capacity.”
One of the main features of this project was the construction of the 215’s interchange with Cheyenne Avenue. With the interchange now constructed and operational, motorists on the 215 will be able to stay on the 215’s mainline travel lanes and not have to encounter traffic signals unless they are getting on and off the 215 at the interchange. Other project features included the construction of auxiliary lanes between Lake Mead Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, necessary drainage facilities, appropriate lighting and traffic signal modifications at the 215/Cheyenne interchange.
This $44.5 million-dollar project started in August 2006. By substantially completing and opening the project at this time, the county and its partners in progress are able to complete the project on schedule and within its estimated budget.
“Partners in Progress” associated with this project include: the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada; the Nevada Department of Transportation; VTN Nevada; Meadow Valley Contractors, Inc.; the City of Las Vegas; and, the Clark County Department of Public Works.
As an additional note, not only were staff members from VTN Nevada responsible for overseeing the project’s day to day operations, they are also responsible for the refreshments as well as attendance of the event’s participating special guests for this ribbon-cutting event.
