Improvement projects will require some closures along Valley freeways this weekend (February 15-18). The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recommends drivers use alternate routes and give themselves extra travel time while the following restrictions are in place:
Southbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) closed between Loop 101 and Bell Road from 3 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (February 18) for ongoing carpool lane construction work. Loop 101 ramps to southbound SR 51 closed. Southbound SR 51 on-ramp at Union Hills Drive closed. Drivers who normally use Loop 101 ramps to southbound SR 51 can use southbound Cave Creek Road or Tatum Boulevard to Bell Road as alternate routes to connect with SR 51.
- Southbound Interstate 17 closed between Pinnacle Peak Road and Rose Garden Lane from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (February 17) for overhead sign work. Southbound traffic will detour along frontage road. Northbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (February 17) for barrier wall placement. Drivers should be prepared to slow down and merge safely approaching work zone. Drivers also should give themselves extra travel time during these overnight restrictions.
- Loop 303 closed between Peoria Avenue and Waddell Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. (noon) Saturday (February 16) for local waterline installation. Cactus Road also closed at Loop 303. Traffic will be detoured on local streets.
- Northbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between Grand Avenue and Union Hills Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (February 16) and from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (February 17) for drainage improvements. Drivers should be prepared to slow down and merge safely approaching work zone.
