A road improvement project on Cheyenne Avenue will restrict traffic on Durango Drive and Buffalo Drive. Starting Thursday, March 8, and continuing through the next month, traffic lane restrictions will be in effect on Durango and Buffalo, through the Cheyenne intersections.
The temporary lane restrictions are necessary as crews remove and replace the roadway as part of continuing work on the $3.2 million Cheyenne Avenue Improvement Project.
Traffic restrictions remain in effect in the work zones on Cheyenne. While work is underway, Alexander Road and Lake Mead Boulevard are suggested as alternate east-west travel routes.
Work on the Cheyenne Avenue Improvement Project started in December and includes removing and replacing the existing pavement on Cheyenne between Durango and Buffalo, and resurfacing the roadway between Buffalo and U.S. Highway 95. The project also includes the installation of median islands, drop inlets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, striping and minor traffic signal upgrades.
Durango and Buffalo should return to full access through the Cheyenne intersections in mid-April. The entire project is slated for completion in late May 2007.
This improvement project is being managed by the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works. The contractor is Las Vegas Paving. Funding is provided by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, Clark County Regional Flood Control District and city of Las Vegas street rehabilitation and sanitation funds.
