The third FIA GT1 race of the season has brought the success for Corvette the teams had been waiting for: the GMAC Corvette C6.R, driven by Mike Hezemans and Fabrizo Gollin finished first in the two-hour race at the Adria Motorsport Park in Italy.

Adria Motorsport Park is located 70 km south of Venice, Italy, and is one of the newer FIA GT venues. The tight twisty 2.702-kilometer (1.68 mile) course hosted Round 3 of the highly competitive 2008 FIA GT championship. Twenty-seven cars qualified for this two-hour night race and fourteen were GT1 entries. Four Corvettes were entered, three C6R’s and one C5R

The GMAC Corvettes fought for the lead throughout the entire race. They both had a stirring battle with the Nr 1 Maserati MC-12. As the clock counted down it was the Hezemans/Gollin GMAC Corvette first across the stripe with a 11.879 second margin. Maserati was second, the Nr 5 GMAC Corvette with drivers Marcel Fässler and Jean-Denis Deletraz was third 2.714 seconds behind the Maserati. The SRT Corvette C6R was fourth. This was the GMAC team’s first victory of the year. The podium at Adria was a sea of Corvette yellow as the fans roared their approval for this outstanding Corvette victory.

There was more for Corvette to cheer about. For 2008, Corvette is the official Safety- and Leading Car for the FIA GT Championship. Corvette Europe supplied two Corvette’s Z06 to become the Official Safety and Leading Car for 2008. The program will continue through the season to the final FIA GT3 Championship race in Dubai and the final FIA GT Championship race in San Luis, Argentina. In addition a Cadillac CTS 3.6 will be the Medical Car and a Cadillac Escalade will be the Course Car.

SRO Motorsports Group is particularly pleased to announce this partnership with such an important member of the GT community. “Corvette is a perfect Official Car Supplier for us,” commented Stephane Ratel, Chairman of SRO Motorsports Group. “Their cars have played a leading role on the track in recent years, winning the Total 24 Hours of Spa last year (2007) as well as the Teams Championship in the 2007 FIA GT3 European Championship, so it is pleasing to see them play an official role as well. SRO look forward to growing this partnership together with Corvette”.

The next FIA GT round is in two weeks at the track of Oschersleben, Germany, July 5-6. Please visit www.corvettemotorsport.com for more info.
