The U.S. Department of Transportation notes that “clean” modes of transportation, like the Monorail, are at the top of its recommendations for effective ways to reduce pollution. In fact, a transportation model statistic calculated by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada indicates that the Las Vegas Monorail reduced emissions in 2007 by more than 58 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), based on the number of Monorail passengers in 2007. The system also replaced more than 3.2 million vehicle miles traveled during 2007 alone.
