SOUTH LAKE TAHOE , Calif. – February 5, 2008 – Sierra Resort opened its award-winning 400-foot long Superpipe to the public today with 17-foot walls and superior snow conditions. The award-winning Superpipe is the latest addition to Sierra Resort’s freestyle terrain, which includes five terrain parks featuring a wide array of jumps, boxes, rails, bonks and other innovative features.
 
“I am so excited to be home and to be able to ride Sierra’s pipe,” said Hannah Teter, Sierra Elite Team Athlete and winner of the women’s halfpipe gold medal in Torino , Italy . “It’s perfect timing for me from a learning/progression stand-point. Time to get shred-nasty!”
 
“Sierra Resort is committed to offering skiers and riders the best pipe in Lake Tahoe ,” said Matt Weitzel, Terrain Park Supervisor. “We put a lot of energy behind the Superpipe every season and are pleased with this year’s product. Cut by Tyson Terpening, Park Grooming Supervisor, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort’s Superpipe is well known all over California for consistently delivering a superior experience. Terpening himself is a well-known personality in the freestyle terrain industry and has worked to build features for the the U.S. Open and the Vans Cup – two most prestigious freestyle competitions in North America .
 
The Superpipe is just the latest addition to Sierra Resort’s freestyle terrain. Five terrain parks have been keeping skiers and riders busy jumping and jibbing all season long. From the low-to-the-ground, low-consequence features in the Burton Progression Park to the small to medium features in the Snowshoe park and the medium to large features in the Bashful park, The Alley and the Smokey park, freestyle skiers and riders have been enjoying the best of terrain park innovation all season long. Still to come this season are a dedicated rail park, an eight-foot halfpipe and a boardercross course.
 
With freestyle terrain for all abilities, and now the Superpipe open for the season, Sierra Resort is living up to its award-winning reputation for being a true home to freestyle skiers and riders.
