SPRINGTIME IS THE BEST TIME AT LAS VEGAS SKI
& SNOWBOARD RESORT
For many locals, March is the best time to enjoy skiing and snowboarding in
the Spring Mountains. Long, warm days between the spring storms, bring sunny and
snowy conditions.
As we move into March, LVSSR is operating on a base
over 5 feet deep! A typical March may deliver well over 3 feet of snowfall at
the ski area, so be ready for all types of weather and enjoy these brilliant,
sunny days of skiing and riding in the springtime.
Snow conditions can vary greatly this time of year.
- A typical sunny,
spring day may see frozen granular snow in the morning. As the sun heats the
canyon, the snow will loosen up and change to loose granular snow, which is a
loose, “sugar” type of snow.
- If the heat really comes, we will see loose
granular snow turn into a wet granular type of surface. Great for snowboarding
or skiing on modern equipment.
- With a deep snow base on the mountain, spring
conditions may develope into corn snow.
- Corn snow is a type of large, loose
snow crystals about the size of corn. Frozen at night and loose during the day.
Many skiers and riders in the west look forward to corn skiing every year.
Spring can also deliver plenty of powder. Freshly fallen, fluffy snow that
blankets the mountains and is a sought after for “first tracks” into an
undisturbed surface.
